Bathroom ventilation fans are also
called fart fans because most people use these for removing the horrible
smells that can be created from someone else using your bathroom. It
never seems to be us creating those horrible smells).
Most building codes require ventilation fans in bathrooms that have no
windows.
The purpose of a ventilation fan is to remove moisture while taking a
warm shower or bath. If we do not remove the moisture from the bathroom
somehow you could end up with some mold or mildew problems.
Bathroom ventilation fans come in a wide variety of sizes. They have
ductless ventilation fans that somehow recalculate the air in your
bathroom. I have never installed one of these so I really can't comment
on their effectiveness.
One of the advantages to a ductless ventilation fan would be the cost
savings of running the ducting from the man to the exterior of the home.
This could be a major expense depending on the difficulty of running the
ventilation ducting.
If you have an attic and plenty of room above your bathroom ceiling this
will make the installation of a new ventilation fan easier. If however
you live in a two story home and the bathroom is on the lower floor or
have a flat roof ceiling this could become a major expense.
If you have a broken bathroom ventilation fan it should be replaced as
soon as possible.
