Steel Bathtub Upgrade

Steel bathtubs come in many different shapes and sizes. They also come in a variety of colors, white is probably the most common color of any bathtub.

Steel bathtubs are not as hard to handle as a cast iron bathtub because of their weight. A standard sized steel bathtub usually weighs under 100 pounds. One person can usually install a steel bathtub but it will require two people to install a cast iron bathtub.

If you drop something hard like a piece of tile on a steel bathtub you could chip the tub. I have done this a couple of times and they can be difficult to repair, they could also be expensive to repair.

If the bathtub does get chipped it would be cheaper to remove the bathtub if possible. If you are too far along in the remodeling stage there are professionals who repair bathtub chips. While tiling a steel bathtub makes your bathtub is covered properly with a drop cloth or some plastic covering.

I personally like steel bathtubs and preferred them over cast iron because of the weight and the difficulty of installing them but if I had to choose the most durable bathtub would be cast iron.
