| The rebar shown in the picture
above has been drilled into the garage floor slab. You can't see it too
well but the dirt was removed underneath the garage exterior wall
footing.
The reason for this will be the new second story floor beam that will be
installed to carry the roof load as well as the floor load for the new
room addition.
The engineer required a concrete pad with rebar to beef up the footing
and distribute the weight that the new floor beam will carry. This is
common when installing additional structural beams while building a room
addition.
