Wrong Rebar Dowels

The additional concrete footing reinforcement in the picture above are strictly going to be used as dowels tying the floor slabs together. We had a hard time drilling the holes in the concrete for the dowels. The width of the hole we cut into the concrete garage floor should have actually been wider to allow our drills easier access.

The engineer only require dowels and did not require the rebar to lap at least 20 times its diameter for some sort of structural reinforcement.

If the engineer would have required Dowling and structural reinforcement we would have needed to cut a larger hole into the concrete floor slab.

This is something to think about when drilling holes on your next project that requires Dowling.
