Guest House

Building a guest house requires some land to be able to build it on. As a general rule of thumb the guest house maximum square footage will not be larger than half the square footage of the main house. However you can build a new house on your property and make it at least twice the size of your original home. Then you can make the new home your main residence and the original house a guest house. This all sound great but your will have to check with your local planning department first.

A guest house is normally a one bedroom house with a living room, kitchen, bathroom and nook. These are normally under 1000 square feet of living area.
