| By Greg Vanden Berge The question isn't how do I
install a bathtub where there isn't any bathtub right now. The question
is how do I get to the plumbing. Where is the hot and cold water pipes?
Where is the drain pipe and the vent pipe ? These are the most important
questions to ask when installing a bathtub or a shower in a area where
you think it would be nice to have a bath fixture that requires
plumbing.
Over the years I have went on a lot of home estimates where the
home owner would like to install a bathtub, sink , toilet
or shower to a bathroom. The first thing I am told by most home
owners is how easy it should be to put a bathtub right over
there up against the wall next to the door.
The problem is that the plumbing is probably near but how
near is the question. Now how do you find the plumbing ? If you
are on a raised foundation you can crawl under the house and
locate the plumbing visually. This is going to work out great
and will not be that difficult to locate your bathtub where ever
you. |

If you are on a concrete slab this is where the problems
start. You are going to have to jack hammer up the floor and do
exploratory wall demo to find the drain and water pipes. It will be best
if you are going to locate the new tub near an existing or in a
existing bathroom. The nice thing about a bath tub is it only requires a
inch and a half drain pipe for the waste. A shower will require a
two inch waste pipe.
