| As the stairs get older and the
wood dries it will shrink. The wood shrinking causes the nails to
loosen. Then the squeak sound comes from the nail rubbing against the
stair tread as you walk up and down the stairway. The stair stringers
also shrink over time causing a gap between the stair tread and
stringer. This has the same effect over time.
